PVP Explained

Player versus Player content allows players to compete with other players by using their super-powers, weapon attacks, and battle skills. DCUO provides two PVP gameplay to compete which are Arenas and Legends. Both gameplays let players queue in 1vs1, 2vs2, 4vs4, 5vs5, and 8vs8 PVP instances,

By doing PVP instance, players grant Marks of Valor which can be spent in PVP sets, PVP styles, or Prefab MODS. Furthermore, there are tons of PVP feats which will give multiple skill points to empower characters.

Participating in Legend or Arena instances will grant players:

  • 200 Marks of Valor and 2 Marks of Legend (winning)
  • 100 Marks of Valor and 1 Mark of Legend (losing)

Only in Lair Battles , players will obtain 70 Marks of Valor and 2 Marks of Legend for winning and 35 Marks of Valor and 1 Marks of Legend for losing.

In both PVP Gameplays, using their weapon attacks, learning when to block and interrupt, and clipping superpowers will let you be a master in PVP.

Legends PVP

legends

This PVP gameplay allows players to fight with the appearance and superpowers of Iconic Heroes and Villains regardless of whether they are Heroes or Villains. Legend iconics can be purchase with Marks of Legend or Station Cash in the Marketplace.

In Legends, your characters’ level, stats and/or combat rating do not have an effect on Legends. All Legends characters in the game are balanced against each other and have similar stats and abilities. So for new and under-geared players, Legends are the best option to start getting Marks of Valor and Mark of Legends

Legendary Members have access to all Legend Characters and the best part is that these members can buy Marketplace Legend Characters with Marks of Legends also

Arenas PVP

pvp2

This PVP gameplay allows players to fight with the player’s own character. Arena instances require more knowledge about battling with other players and sometimes changing the loadout will be required in battle.

At PVP Arenas, all statistics will be balanced so no matter what Tier you have equipped, yours and your enemies statistics will be the same. However, having tons of skill points will improve your statistics a little bit.

PVP Tiers and Legend Vendors

pvp4

T1 PVP Vendors

Each Headquarter has the same number of PVP Tiers and Legends Vendors. For heroes, Robin, Aquaman, and Hawkgirl are the T1 Vendors, while Two Face, Ursa, and Felix Faust are T1 Vendors for Villains. Robots near T1 Vendors sell T1 weapons.

T1 Vendors sell equipment CR 96 and CR 97. Players can directly buy Tier CR 97, once they buy all CR 97 set, CR 98 set will be displayed in the T2 Vendor.

Near these vendors are also T2. T3. T4 PVP Weapon vendors and PVP Style Vendors.

Below is a table with the estimated cost of PVP Tiers Set. For players with Free Access will be imposible for them to buy these sets because of their cash limitation.

What are Prefab MODS?

pvp4

Prefab MODs are similar to Equipment MODs. For now, at PVP CR 100, vendors are selling Prefab MODs VI Expert which offers the same statistics as Equipment MODs VI Experts.

Every PVP Tier Vendor sell Prefab MODs VI once players reach at least 96 PVP Combat Rating. According to Player’s PVP Combat Rating, Prefab MODs will be unlocked while PVP CR raises.

Even in PVP Missions, if you confront a player with high PVE CR you wont be alive that long

Hello Will Stone, winning pvp matches is more about blocking, interrupting, and using your weapon attacks. Your superpowers become useful only to increase your damage output by the percentage mentioned in its tooltip.

However, this may change in the future with new changes coming soon to the game

Hello Metal, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, no matter what PVP gear you use, all stats are balanced. Getting PVP gear is only viable if you want to feat hunt or get PVP styles

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Mrs Hones, yes, prefab mods can be used in PVE Gear and PVP Gear, same for Synthetic MODS

  4. Tundra_x

isnt there a 0.5 tier vendor u can buy with cash or something if not , do i basically do pvp get valor and buy tier 1 pieces 1 by 1 ?

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Tundra, thanks for your question. You can enter PVP instances with your PVE gear because at pvp instances all statistics are balanced no matter what tier you use. There are no vendors that sell PVP gear with cash, you need to buy pvp gear with Marks of Valor one by one

    2. Parsifal Godtree

There’s level 18 & 28 pvp gear for cash sale in the Midtown MPD Station for heroes but its only the helmet, neck, shoulders, rings, & weapon which grants around 250 to 500 “toughness” against other players, whereas pve gear provides zero protection against other players, only “defense” against nonplayers & such. However, if you have 55 skillpoints to spare, you can avail the 5 weapon trees which each grants (+40 x 3 skillpoints) defense & toughness after the 1st four skillpoints down the middle in each respective weapon tree – Bow, Dual Pistols, Dual Wield, Martail Arts, & Staff – plus the innate iconic power point, Nanoweave Armor, which grants +200 defense & toughness for a total of +800 defense & toughness. Of course, your pve weapon itself doesn’t grant any defense or toughness to begin with, but it still inflicts damage regardless, so it’s probably shrewd to avoid buying the pvp weapon until the ultimate 100 pvp cr weapon of your choice as your last piece of pvp gear for your toon

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Parsifal for letting us know this tip. We didn’t realize there were another PVP Tier Vendor 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Rageman, in duelling using PVE gear will inflict more damage than PVP Gear. However, PVP Gear provide toughness protecting against characters attack while PVE provide defense protecting against adds.

sorry to bother u again but wondering which martial arts mastery is good for pvp. ( hand blaster/ dual pastels)

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Superbeing, martial arts, one handed, and brawling are the easiest weapons to manage in PVP matches. If you are starting in PVP you should choose any of them

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

For PVE, using ICE Advanced Mechanics is the way to deal heavy damage so using weapon attacks is not necessary. For PVP, you should get use to one weapon combos. I prefer One Handed for both PVP and PVE

  6. Costy

    Hi,
Can you get the Harley’s punchline armour set if you are free to play or premium?
My max withdraw is 2000 do the pieces cost more than that?
Or do you have to pay for membership?
    Thanks.

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Costy, you are able to play PVP with free membership. However, to raise your PVP Combat rating you need to be at least Premium membership so you can spend 2000 cash for PVP Tier

  7. VoltageWard

I just really want that Gotham Knight style. Is there an easier way to get it without having to wait for the long pvp cues? I know there probably isn’t an easier way but I thought I’d ask just to be sure.

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Voltage, unfortunately you only get this style set from PVP. However, you should raise your PVP CR by doing 1vs1 instances such as Shadowlands or Batcave. That is the fastest way to increase your PVP Combat rating

  8. Bad

So I had purchased all T1 gear and I still don’t see T2 I see two different sets of gear do I have to purchase both in order to get T2?

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Bad, thanks for your comment. Remember that T2 = CR98 vendor is located in a different location in the headquarter. Check the map above to see where to find it. Plus you need to buy all items with CR 97 LEVEL to access CR 98 Tier

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Savonc, raising your PVP CR allow you to buy Prefab MODS that costs Marks of Valor. At PVP CR 100, Prefab MODS 6 Exp and Prefab MODS 7 will be sold by PVP Vendors

  9. Lodestone

    Hi,

I like to know what’s the best way for a pvp dps to set up youre skill points tree.
Meaning ,should i put sp in precision (for weapon attacks) or might? Or should i put my sp more in restoration and health for example. I know for dps normally you use the might and stuff but because of the pvp gear i see different stats. I guess i put full sp in critical attack damage and attack chance same as in pve.

    Thanks

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Lodestone, i personally use the same skills distribution for my current role for any situation PVP or PVE. You must remember that entering pvp instance will balance your statistics so winning the battle will depend mostly on your weapon, advanced mechanics, blocking, and interrupting skills

  10. ShibiRedFoux

With Origin Crisis u gain access to Future Batman just thought i let you know. But as for HoF Legends i think i have to buy them separate bcuz there were not included which is pretty strange considering I got Bats with Crisis

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Shibi, for the moment we tried to list all Legends according to its Episode and Cost. I have Origin Crisis but dont have access to Future Batman. For the moment. Legends characters tooltip dont specify well how to get them. Some of them say Available for Legendary Members but they can be bought as premium if you have the DLC.

Maybe when legends tooltip get updated we will be able to provide the exact information.

However, thanks for your comment im sure some players will try to get them by reading your comment 🙂

Some legends characters are no longer for free, e.g Power girl. I realized this around 20 days ago when I created a new character and grind my way to get all free legends characters., power girl was only available for members or by Station cash. why is that way now?

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Panoramix, Legends Vendor show all available Legends in-game. However, some of them are free for all players, other legends can be unlocked to be bought with Marks of Legends by getting The Last Laugh DLC, and most of Legends in that list can be bought with Station Cash or Marks of Legends only if you have Legendary Access.

  13. batman101

I’m truly sorry to bother you AGAIN! But I forgot to mention that I collected them already, I got Everything for pvp 96 (Aeronaut) and 97 (L.O). I have a few questions. Do I need to collect the rings again? And do I need to collect more pvp weapons? Because I have martial arts, Duel wield, and Dual pistols in pve. And F.Y.I(not to be rude) I am pvp cr 94. Thank you for your advice hope it works. 😉

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Batman, if you have all, i have no explanation of what is going wrong. You dont need to buy rings again or any other weapon if you already have it. Maybe you should contact DCUO directly to help you out. Or tell us your characters name and equip your PVP Set so we can have a look of what is going wrong 🙁

    2. Rage GalGardner

Batman, when I bought the LO gear, I got: the chest, hands, shoulders, back, legs, waist, feet, face, 2 rings, trinket, neck and weapon…then my CR went to 97. Even though I already had the weapon (hand blast, firespray), it was PVE….so apparently, you do need to get the weapon again to get your CR up. Hope that helps

  14. batman101

I’m having a problem getting the vengeance gear. I’ve collected the logistics officer style with the rings trinkets and etc. and it left me at pvp cr 83. So now I’m trying to collect the areonaut pieces and it won’t go up. Can you please explain to me what I have to do in order to reach the vengeance. Thank You :).

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Batman, it is a rare situation the one you mention. By buying full PVP set should give you a higher CR. The only way to raise your PVP CR is buying full set, once you have it all you will be able to see the next tier. Remember that only T1 and T2 are displayed from Wings Vendor and then to see next PVP Tiers you most go to Robot Vendors

    2. batman101

Thank you for your advice but now that I’ve collected all the areonaut pieces I got up to PvP CR 94. I got the weapon and all now but I can’t seem to be getting up 97. Please help. I’m really having issues with this. What elese can I do?

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Remembe, you must collect Rings, Neck, and Trinket to raise your CR to the main level. If your PVP CR is 97, you must have full set with CR 97 to raise it up

  15. Rage GalGardner

Thanks for all the help! Since then, I’ve raised my PVP CR to 97! And now, the Vengeance gear is displayed. o buy all that (and 2 rings and trinket and weapon), and Elemental Android will appear? Cool, thanks!

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

You are welcome. It should appear after you complete Vengeance Gear. PVP havent changed in a while so im almost fully convinced Elemental will be next

  16. Rage GalGardner

Hi, I want to get the Elemental Android gear. Currently, my PVP Cr is 11. I bought the first piece of Logistics Officer, which raised it by 1. So, if I keep buying the gear (trinkets, rings and weapons) the next tier, t2 will appear, right? It will increase my CR to 97? Is that how it works? Cause, my PVE CR is 104. Thanks! Also, I don’t have access to the Utility Belt, do I still need to buy that, and if so…will it work still, thought I don’t have utility Belt access?

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Rage, thanks for your question. I think that Elemental Android gear is able to be bought when you reach PVP CR 98. Remember that to the next PVP Tier be displayed you need to buy full pvp set available. You dont need to buy utility belt but you must buy the trinket to fill that CR Slot

  17. Holyreign

I just got a full pvp armor and so i am 97 dps, question is if i want to heal do i need to buy all gear for heal again to get the 98 gear because i like to go for healing and 98 armor isnt showing up at the vendor

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Holyreign, there is only 1 universal PVP armor for all roles. If you want to specialize in Healing you must have your skill points and MODS oriented to heal. Remember, PVP Tiers are only displayed when you already have previous PVP Tier completed including: full set, face, rings, trinkets, and weapon.

If you are missing one item you wont be able to see the next PVP Tier

  18. parth

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Parth, Gotham Knight Set is the latest PVP Set so you will need CR 99 to be able to see Gotham Knight set.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Tiny, to raise your PVP Combat Rating you must buy all pieces of the available armor including neck, rings, trinkets, tier set, and weapon.

  19. Bradley Paterson

A long time ago (within the first month of playing) I got the T1 PvP Gear, however I ended up deleting it without knowing what it was for.

I’m in the situation now that I have actually started playing PVP more often I’m extremely underpowered where can I locate crappy PvP gear so I’m fully decked out and start earning valor to access more powerful PvP gear?

I have gone to Midtown and Diamond District safehouses and grabbed some levelling up gear as a start however it isn’t a full suit. I then went to Watchtower and went back to the T1 vendor and all I can see is Lvl 90+ weapons and no gear.

Whats going on where has all the PvP Gear gone?

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Bradley, once you reach T1 PVP Gear the next gear will be found in the area between Magic Wing and Meta Wing. For raising your PVP rating you must buy full armor sets including rings, trinkets, and weapon to display the next PVP Tier

  20. Yorkshire Ice

    Hi
I play mainly pve but recently have been venturing into pvp..One question baffles me.If i am in a pve environment and have queued for arena do i have to quickly change my armour or do you just leave it in the bank or inventory and it does it automatically..May sound like a noob question but in most games i have played its one or the other..Also can i change a character from pve to pvp ?

    Thanks

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Yorkshire ice, with recent updates you can use your PVE Tier and Arenas will disable your pve tier and balance your stats with your opponents stats. The main reason of getting PVP Armor is to get Feats from completing PVP Tiers because no matter what PVP Combat rating you have or armor you have, your stats will be balanced with your opponents

Personally, when i have PVP armor, i save my free armory with the PVE Build and if i need to change to PVP i just equipped and if i want to return to PVE i just activate the PVE Armory.

  21. finz

Hi guys, noob question, I just got to level 30 for the first time and am working on getting tier 1 PVE gear, do I actually need to get tier 1 pvp gear to have any chance in pvp modes? It seems like if stats are balanced there’s no point and I’ll just have a load of gear I can’t use in pve!

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Finz thanks for your comment. You need need to get PVP gear for PVP instance because as you said stats are balanced. However, if you want to get PVP Style Feats or raise your PVP Combat rating then you will need to buy PVP gear

  22. ALANA FAGINA

I noticed legends cost cash.Is this where the game is headed? Most games you buy and play ,this is free to download but by far free to play, which is fine except everything is starting to cost money to have.So 3 years and 1000 dollars later more money is expected to get the “full game”.Why so high on prices and why is everything having to cost real money. The more it cost i assure you the less people will play and be hesitant to even start once they realize it cost so much to get the full experience .Not a good move to charge for everything.I love this game but i love my money more. Maybe its time to give back to the commited dcuo gamer.Greed isn’t a good look on this game.

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Alana, thanks for your comment. DCUO is free to play but as you said there are some limitations that summing them all cost a lot of money. But if you are Legendary (paying $ 15.00 monthly) you will get all content and benefits (including some legends for free or ingame currency). Personally, i have been playing DCUO since second DLC Pack so with my premium account and buying all DLC pack, it has been enough for me.

With GU47, a lot of changes will arrive so we still have to validate it is viable to still be premium or jump to be legendary membership (unfortunately that seems to be the most viable way to play)

    2. webrisk

I agree, this game has gotten worse. You have to spend money to get anywhere and by the time you start getting somewhere they change it. Also this game has gotten to the point where it is so PvP oriented, even though there is an entire PvP side, that it is ruining the concept of the game. Not to mention you get demolished or kicked out by high tier people. Then there are the loads of cheaters like the players that are indefinitely invisible in PvP. The players and the game itself doesn’t play by the games own basic rules. It’s so horrible now that I will not waist anymore money on the game. About ready to stop playing, because it’s so horrible now. Pretty much you have to make you characters one way and one way only. Another Great game turned to crap.

Where is the cash-only beginner PVP gear at? Every time I go to the vendors (Aquaman, Hawkgirl, Robin) they want 2000 marks.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Checkmate Knight, there is no begginer PVP gear that costs only Cash. Since last PVP Season, you can enter PVP instance with no PVP armor at all and your stats will be increased or decreased depending your adversary.

  25. P Wizzle

    I’m curious about pvp trinkets.
With the pvp overhaul a few updates ago you can no longer use trinkets or pvp consumables.
The only trinket I have that works now in pvp is the whirlwind breakout trinket.
Is this really the only trinket that can be used in pvp?
I have plenty of breakout and stun trinkets that do not say “not usable in PvP arenas/death match” but are no longer accessible.

    Reply
    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Yes P Wizzle, Whirlwind Breakout trinket is the only and more recommended trinket for you to use in PVP Situations. Only PVP Vendors can sell trinkets usable in PVP arenas 🙁

  26. Blackdragon

I agree with violetedge about this Pvp guide talking a lil more about different matches and what you need to do in them. I loved everything else about your site but felt a lil let down on pvp info please help with this info I might still need some of it but I’m sure there are a lot of people that would like to know before going into pvp blind

When Suicide Squad is disable, server supposes to match you up against villains only and your group suppose to share your morality. However, most of the time no enough heroes or villains are available for this matches so server take longer to queue you. Maybe suicide squad option is bugged 🙁

I think it is, because I’m a villain and more times than not, my team in 5v5 is mostly heroes, and I’m actually facing villains. That’s uncool.

Yeap Cjstolte, there are some bugs that should be fixed by DCUO Team. Maybe in the future this will be resolved 🙁

Hello Tropical, i know what you mean. PVP armor are extremely expensive, i think their high cost is because for being great at PVP and master Weapon Attacks, superpowers, blocking, interrupting, and roles is necesary for you to spend that much time in PVP.

Also for getting PVP feats you must enter many times to specific arenas or legends that feat hunting in player versus player means that you must only focus on it

Question: for open-world PvP events such as the Diamond Heist, is PvE tier equipment still valid? I ask because I made a mistake early on when entering a PvE Challenge Instance with a PvP weapon. In that Instance, PvP equipment stats were disabled, thus nerfing my damage output tremendously.

Hello Avatar, in PVP events, your pve equipment is still valid. In fact, most people make PVP events with their PVE equipment because its only about reviving the lantern or getting the diamods. You will also need to knock out 5 enemies but it can be done by defeating enemies in arenas or legends

so i just dinged to lvl 30, before dinging, i had 2000 valor points and went ahead and bought the pvp chest piece when i was lvl 27…now that i just dinged to lvl 30, i put the item on and it absolutely does nothing to my stats…like nothing changes…i fought 2 lvl 25s and they literally downed me in less than 15 seconds…i mean like their attacks literally depleted my health bar as if someone was showing a health bar being depleted in super fast motion…like completely freaking ridiculous, can you explain to me why that is so.

Hello Gino with GU42 pvp became like legends battle. Using your pvp armor will only work for raising your pvp combat rating but your stats will always balanced to people you are fighting against.

Using your weapon attacks, blocking, and interrupting in the proper way is what you need to be great at pvp. Your superpowers must focus on stunning or knocking down your enemies so your weapon attacks will hit them harder

What is the maximum number of marks you can have at one time? I’ve heard 6500 but I’d like to know for sure. Thanks.

Hello Jpdg, i couldnt find the exact amount of max number of marks of valor. But for what i heard is 6500 also

  30. Nenln

Well, I just noticed I can’t use 2 trinkets even though I had a pouch for them, so I wasted 500 marks on that. Can I equip 2 rings, or will the same happen?

Hello Nenln, yes you can equip 2 rings with no problem. In the trinkets, only can equip one and the other slot is for your soder cola unlimited. This is a way DCUO find of balancing PVP

Hello Nemis, that is wierd. All arenas and legends gives you 200 MOV and 2 MOL if you win and 100 MOV and 2 MOL if you lose. That situation you mentioned could be a one time bug

As usual, you guys do a great job with this site, thank you. In case it’s been overlooked, the guide should be updated to include that there are 5v5 maps available in both arenas and legends. Also, Lairs matches only award 70 MoV for a win. I am not sure the rest of the details, but I’m sure you can get that info and round out your info here. As been suggested above, this guide can only get better with some basic info about maps and the different types of objectives like nodes, death match, etc. Thanks again.

Thanks for your suggestion Veritasum, we will include the information you pointed us. About basic info of PVP maps, we are getting that guide done, but we will need some time to grab some pictures from them 🙂

Of course Model, that is the new changes in PVP Season 3. But of course, each piece of equipment has it Marks of Valor cost increased

Hello Mass Terror, we play only in PC side EU and US. However, we are always trying different factions, servers, and powers that we are not always on with the same character

Would be great if u make a Safehouse (rescue/graviton etc.) PVP tutorial for all these morons who que up there not knowing what to do / what this is about. For them all pvp is deathmatch, so sad. I think community would appreciate that.

Thats a great idea VioletEdge, we can make a guide for each one of the PVP Instances to explain how to play it, as soon as we can the guides will be posted 🙂 Glad to have a valuable feedback from you
