Power Points Build

Atomic DPS Loadout

  1. Beta Surge: Blast your enemies with a wave of radioactive energy, damaging and possibly knocking them down. Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack. Increase all damage by 35%.
  2. Atom-Powered Assault: Empower your attacks to deal additional explosive damage. Restores power when Nuclear Pressure stacks are applied or when using Geiger Beam and Geiger Blast. Increases all damage by 45% until the hit counter resets
  3. Neutron Bomb: Launch an explosive energy bomb at your enemies, damaging and knocking them down. Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack. Increase all damage by 40%.
  4. Nuclear Burst: Blast your target with an explosive ball of energy, damaging and stunning it. Enemies near your target are damaged and may be knocked down. Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack. Increase all damage by 40%.
  5. Geiger Blast: Create a small exothermic reaction that will damage and knockdown nearby enemies. If you have 3 Nuclear Pressure stacks and have no Molecular Charges, the reaction is amplified, dealing heavy damage to enemies. Removes all Nuclear Pressure stacks, Molecular Charges, and deactivates your Quark-Gluon AuraIncreases all damage by 50%.
  6. Geiger Beam: Blast your target with a concentrated energy beam, damaging and stunning it. If the target is below 35% health, the attack deals extra damage.

Atomic DPS Rotation

    • Atom-Powered Assault [2]” Empower your attacks to deal additional explosive damage. Restores power when Nuclear Pressure stacks are applied or when using “Geiger Beam [6]” and “Geiger Blast [5]”.
    • “Beta Surge [1]” Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack
    • “Neutron Bomb [3]” Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack
    • “Nuclear Burst [4]” Adds a Nuclear Pressure stack
    • Depending the situation you must use between:
      • “Geiger Blast [5]” (melee or mid-range): If you have 3 Nuclear Pressure stacks and have no Molecular Charges, the reaction is amplified, dealing heavy damage to enemies.
      • “Geiger Beam [6]” (range): If you have 3 Nuclear Pressure stacks and have no Molecular Charges, the reaction is amplified, dealing heavy damage to enemies.

Atomic DPS Tips

  • Atom-Powered Assault [2]” is recommended to start with DPS rotation. Once Atomic AM is up, you can clip it after “Beta Surge [1]”,“Neutron Bomb [3]”, or “Nuclear Burst [4]” when it becomes active again
  • To inflict heavy damage, you must collect 3 Nuclear Pressure stacks and then use  “Geiger Blast [5]” or “Geiger Beam [6]” depending the situation
  • This rotation don’t let players use Quark-Gluon Aura and focus only on collecting Nuclear Pressure stacks to inflict heavy damage
  • Using “Beta Surge [1]” clipped with “Atom-Powered Assault [2]” will activate refund power mechanics which occur everytime Nuclear Pressure is applied or  “Geiger Beam [6]” and “Geiger Blast [5]” is used

Hello KandaLaw, we usually recommend One Handed as weapon but you should use the weapon you are more confortable with. Plus, Atomic DPS is all about using Advanced Mechanis so no need for using weapon attacks that much

  1. KandaLaw

Hi and thanks for this guide! I didn’t play DCUO for a long time (more than a year,i stopped just before pc and ps get together) and i played Earth and Rage (Earth was very nice with the pets etc … but when you go higher in CR, i feel less and less dps but it’s maybe me :p)

So i saw this new power and i saw that both “role” are great in Atomic (DPS and Tank) so it’s nice for me because i like both role in this game but i know that a lot can change in this games, sometimes a power is the BEST by far and one month later not anymore etc …

SO my question is simple: Atomic is still a good power in DCUO? for both DPS and Tanking?

(Ps: Sorry english is not my main language 😉 )

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Atomic tanking is know as a battle tank because it uses Atomic Combos to tank and inflict good damage. In DPS, it is not considered one of the best but with Stats Revamping coming soon this will change because stats will matter and having your skill points raised will be more important.

I suggest you to choose the power you love and then raise its CR and Skill points as much as you can 🙂

  2. Ray

The load out and the rotation should be the same lol but that being said I also should read the tips better lol. I thought the load out and the rotation were the same lmao. I’m 140 and do crappy dps any tips? 106 sp.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ray, there can be multiple reasons for your dps to be low. First, your Skill points should be always higher than your CR. Maybe your group members have higher CR and Skill points than you. Better equipment and MODs can be the reason other players deal more damage

    2. Dendro Deviatus

Atomic is one of the most versatile powers : –

      1. It’s the first combo power that doesn’t rely on Precision, so you can go full Might.
      2. You can have two different sets of power interactions on the same power bar. One for hard-hitting damage (Geiger rotation), and one for mid-range damage and knockback/stun (Combo rotation).

Both the Combo rotation and the Geiger rotation (the one that DCUObloguide have set out above) have different advantages, which is why it is great to have both on the same power bar, so you can switch between them at will, depending on the circumstances.

Both require you to spam powers, both are vulnerable to interrupt.

The Quark-Gluon combo rotation is more forgiving of interrupts, and is more versatile at melee / mid range for knockbacks and stuns. It’s a steady, grinding, dependable damage rotation, not a hard-hitter.

The Geiger rotation is way less forgiving, but hits nearly twice as hard. If you get your Geiger hit in, you’re golden, but if you miss it through either interrupts, slowness, or your target already being taken out, you’re unlikely to be able to maintain power through the instance, as the Geiger rotation relies heavily on power back from Atomic Powered Assault.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ceren, thanks for your question. You can use Atomic Combos while you are under LVL 30 but as soon as you are able to use Atomic Advanced Mechanics you shouldn’t use Atomic Combos

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Jaylin, thanks for your comment. I recommend you to buy second armory only when you are near the highest Combat rating in-game. I also prefer to raise my combat rating in DPS role because it is faster to kill enemies in Challenges, Duos, or missions

  3. Mrs Honest

could you explain what clipping is? I’m not sure what it is and I’ve heard this term a few times :s

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Mrs Honest, thanks for your question. In DCUO, there are some superpowers (specially buffs like Atom-Powered Assault) that can be clipped in order to avoid full animation of other superpowers.

Try to use fast Beta Surge (Damage Superpower) and then Neutron Bomb (Damage Superpower), you will see Beta Surge needs to finish its animation before Neutron Bomb starts.

Try to use Beta Surge (Damage Superpower) and then strong>Atom-Powered Assault (Buff Superpower), you will see Beta Surge‘s animation is reduced when you use Atom-Powered Assault after it. That is called clipping.

As you can check in the Atomic DPS Tips, “Atom-Powered Assault [2]” is recommended to start with DPS rotation to activate advanced mechanic. Once Atomic AM is up, you can clip it after “Beta Surge [1]”,“Neutron Bomb [3]”, or “Nuclear Burst [4]” when it becomes active again

I’ve never started with atom powered assault. What I do is clip neutron bomb with atom powered assault, then do nuclear burst, then beta surge. Also I only use geiger blast, I dont like to use the beam. As for the last button I use the radiation burn supercharge. Just in case someone wanted to try this you’ll have some really good dps. I’m not modded at all, except with my white mods, and have 219 skill points. So far I have been able to keep up with every power except one. My keagur mate is ice with around 232 skill points. Can’t really catch him.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Firestorm, thanks for your comment. You can use Atom-Powered Assault clipped with another superpower but the first superpower wont refund power.
Ice AM is much easier than Atomic AM plus Ice power interaction may increased its damage.

  5. NUMEX84

Hi. First and formost, awesome site. Love it. Secondly, when using this power do you have to use atom powered first and then the others to get the big damage at the end?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks NUMEX84 for the support to our work. As you can see in Atomic DPS Rotation section, you have to start with Atom-Powered Assault [2] all the time to activate Atomic AM, then you proceed to apply Nuclear Pressure Stack with other superpowers and finally inflict heavy damage with Geiger powers 🙂

  6. Vickey

Hello, I am Taiwanese, grammar may be a little wrong.
I would like to ask what is the most appropriate weapons for atomic(DPS)

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Vickey, for DPS any weapon you use and get to understand how it works, is great for your character. I personally recommend One Handed because it is the most balanced weapon and it is easy to use for beginners 🙂

  7. DevilWing 369

Hello, I just wanted to commend you on such a great job with this website. The atomic and ice dps guides worked very well for me. I recently reached CR 100 with my atomic dps hero and things are going really smooth. My only concern is that my hero cannot withstand any type of damage. I’m not really sure what type of gear I should move towards and right now I’m using a combo of both tank and dps gear. I have not placed mods into my gear (minus the tactical ones) however, I’m still getting out classed by lower level CR heros and I’ve gotten the rotation down like the back of my hand. What am I missing?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Devilwing, thanks for your support we are glad to be helpful. Maybe what you need is some more Skill points. You still need to raise your Combat Rating at the highest possible where your real DPS will show up. As normal, having mixed gear is common while raising CR.

I recommend you focus on your CR. When you are near the highest possible then focus on skill points to increase your damage

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

That is because Atomic Tank can also be a battle tanker as i said before Part of your tanking requires you to use atomic combos which deals good damage due to Quark-Gluon Aura buff increasement

  8. Bob

So im having some issues with doing damage. I keep getting interrupted like crazy before the geiger powers and have to start my 3 power sequence over and over cause i keep getting interrupted. Any advice?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Bob, thanks for your comment. These guides are meant to be used in situations where interrupting and blocking is not a problem. However, challenges, duos, and missions you should consider mixing weapon attacks with your superpowers instead of going full rotation. For PVP, Following the rotation cant be considered at all

  9. Sweetchemistry

I am absolutely in live with your loadout. However with the atomic I’m new to it. (I use your celestial healing loadout it’s super beast! Helped me get into the 100s with cr.) but I made a new character because I feel like I also need a dps. My question is, how come nuclear burst sometimes does multiple enemy’s but sometimes it only effects one. I’ve been using it a lot because it’s a great power but It seems to be hit and miss with the small are that it has.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Sweet, thanks for your question it is nice to be helpful. Nuclear burst blasts one target and Enemies near your it. Maybe enemies are not that near your target which is why Nuclear Burst is unable to hit them as well. Maybe this is the reason why you see Nuclear Burst miss a lot

    2. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Atomic is fully might because its Advanced Mechanics only use superpowers with might damage. You can know when a power is precision damage when you see white letters display the damage and might damage when yellow letters display the damage

    3. Sweetchemistry

Awesome thank you my dcuo guru! Loving this loadout especially how fast my power is restored too. It’s literally changed my game for the best!

    4. DCUO Bloguide Post author

You are welcome Sweet, we are glad that our guides help with your atomic character:)

  10. Shionkreth

Is it really worth taking both geiger powers and foregoing a supercharge power? I notice supercharge powers don’t seem to be an ‘in’ thing anymore actually; are they just not so important with all these new AM mechanics? (new for me at least, I’m returning after a long absence)

With all these rotation changes I’m trying to find a power that works for me; they all feel rather… cumbersome, now. Could you recommend a couple power sets that have slightly more flexible rotations?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Shionkreth, thanks for your comment. All powers have their own kind of Advanced Mechanics. Some AM like ice you need to only spam 2 superpowers, others like Sorcery or Earth, you need to enhanced your pets damage with superpowers while weapon attacking.

Quantum, Gadgets, and Mental AM must use 5/6 superpowers all the time to deal heavy damage. For atomic, you can try unlocking supercharge is you like but you will need to change the loadout for melee or range situations. Our guides are meant to be good in any situation which is why both geiger powers are in the loadout

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Atomic is a great power in fact i prefer it more than quantum 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Bob, i dont know how they numbers are if you compare them. But for what i know they are both considered balanced powers now.

  11. CrunchyMan

Do you have a link for a updated atomic dps loadout but not the burst one I want the that you only do combos please and try

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello CrunchyMan, thanks for your comment. If you want to enjoy combos you should try Atomic Tanking. Atomic DPS Advanced Mechanics is disabled if you try to use Atomic Combos which is why this is not recommended for Atomic DPS 🙁

    2. Treggs

Atomic has 2 types of Advanced Mechanics one is the way its done here and the other is with the combo’s and aura. The combo way does about 10% less damage on sparing targets but in certain situations where you keep getting knocked down it can perform better you can just use the 3 combo powers in this load out so you can do whichever 1 suits the situation

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Victor, Atomic is definitely one of the best DPS power in game 🙂

  12. alec leach

These guides are the best. I used them ever since dcuo went f2p. Started with ice, hard light, sorcery, rage, and now atomic. And I have never been disappointed.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Alec for your comment. We are glad our guides have helped you 🙂

  13. Apex Wolf

OK I’m new to atomic so I’m trying to clarifying that for this load out you do not need to ever tap the secondary ranges for beta-surge, bomb or burst????
Because I finally hit the level where I can open up the powers I need and I tried the QG aura and that rotation gets interrupted like crazy and I’m not will to give up my max damage mod, so if in fact that you don’t, I’m definitely switching…
Great site by the way, most all the times ur load outs are indeed the best set ups, I remember when nature was really bad you guys came up with a load out using wm, and ppl were shock what I was doing with my nature toon!

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Yes Apex thanks for your question. Quark-Gluon Aura is only meant to be used for tanks so you dont need to use ATOMIC COMBOS AT ALL

    2. Treggs

They didn’t come out with the nature loadout Devour Power from US PC figured that out they dont make the loadouts they just search for them on youtube or forums and post them here

  14. vertheros

Hi, shouldn’t beta surge switch its place with atom-powered assault? Also what can I do for solos? To be more precisely bosses are very annoying, if I get stunned once the stacks are gone and I tickle the boss and also lose all my power(again, in case he stuns which happens very often actually). So what can I do in this case?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Vertheros you can switch places in the loadout the important thing is to use Beta Surge clipped with atom-powered assault so you can save time 🙂

  15. Reece

Hey, so I just hit 30 as Atomic and lost as to which gear I should be farming for.

Like, which style tier should I first go for with my Mark of Victory badges then which style tier do I go for after that?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Reece, thanks for your question is not about farming gear at low combat rating. You should mixed looted gear with some Tier gear until you raise your combat rating to the next level. Check our Vendor guides so you can know more about requirements

  16. Wantlove

As a Atomic dps you are rarely using your weapons to attack.
So my question is would it be better to not get the precision points in skill trees and just go critical dmg, critical chance, Might, might&precision points?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Wantlove, thanks for your question. It is recommended that you first unlock movement skills, main weapon mastery and both cross weapon masteries. After that you can go in weapon trees to only unlocked your needed statistics (might and Critical Damage) plus those weapon mastery statistic bonus

  17. DeViL Genshi

This build is beast!! Thank u so much for all the work u do and for this guides. I use them every time I wanna try a new power and roles.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thank you so much Devil Genshi for your comment. We are glad our guides are helpful to you 🙂

  18. Wantlove

How come you suggest Penetrating Strikes ignore 33% defense over Core Strengths additional 10% damage?

What’s the biggest difference in them?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Wantlove, we update our DPS Guides recommending Core Strenghts over Penetrating Strikes. There isnt a big difference between them but overall Core Strenght does increase your damage slightly more than Penetrating Strikes. We are talking about 6.25% improvement for core strength, 5.88% improvement for penetrating strikes…Assuming you’re dps with max damage hands.

You can read more about these topic here

  19. Stricknyne

Hello, love the website. My question is does the damage of Geiger Beam go down if you are in melee range when it’s used? I guess i m not understanding why there would need to be a melee situations power if Geiger Beam will still do its intended dmg from any range. Also is there a way to know how many stacks I have? Nuclear or molecular ata any given time? How long do they last?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Stricknyne, thanks for your comment. We are glad our website has being useful to you. Geiger Blast can be very useful for missions, challenges or duos where enemies can interrupt your Geiger Beam. However, you can replace it with another superpower or maybe a supercharge. Our guides are meant to be great for all kind of situations but player’s experience will enhance loadouts when needed

  20. Ace

can I replace 6 (Geiger Beam) with Radiation Burn ? I just though it might be better But I dunno if it will help me or not

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ace, thanks for your question. You can replace Geiger Beam with Radiation burn. However, you will need to switch between Geiger Blast and Geiger Beam depending the situation (melee or range)

  21. Vladimir

I don’t know what mods should i use for atomic dps in PVP!
    My loadout for pvp:

Atom Splitter > Unleash Antimatter > Atom-Powered Assault > Geiger Beam > Density > Proton Remedy

With this loadout without gear i beat many players with full gear+mods and now when i have gear i’m not sure what mods to put! Thinking about Precision+power Or Precesion+Might or just Precision idk… HELP!

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Vladimir thanks for your comment. It is recommended that you start MODDING your pvp gear when you are 100 PVP CR. Winning PVP Matches is all about blocking, interrupting, using weapon attacks, and using superpowers strategically so mixing Precision + Might is a good way to go. Dont mod power statistics because you will be out of power no matter what you do. Going full Precision is great too because your weapon attacks will deal great damage no matter if you are or not powered

    2. Vladimir

Thx for answer! I feal like i need more power beacause soo many times i don’t have much power to use my finisher (Geiger Beam) to kill enemy, and with atomic dps i feal dps is bad compare to other dps but heal is bigger, i don’t like that beacause i can’t kill any healer or tank now 1v1 no matter if he doesn’t have gear i can’t do much dmg with atomic… And dmg with weapons is low now i can break his blok soo many times but they always heals up and their survability is better then mine soo i don’t like atomic dps to heal i want dmg no heal… 1v1 vs dps can be good sometimes but vs tank or healer no chance…

Just one more question if i put Precesion + Might what might acctualy improves to me? Wil it improove my Atom Splitter or Geiger Beam or any other superpower to deal more dmg?

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Precision improve your weapon attacks while Might increases your superpowers and atomic combos damage. As Atomic DPS you should focus on Might. However, if you are PVP you should Precision+Might or MIGHT if you know how to avoid interrupt

    4. Demetrius

This is a good loadout and the same one I use.

I disagree that modding Power is useless. Here’s the deal- If you mod straight Precision you’re only gaining a little extra precision than if you modded Precision + something else. Precision plus Might is fine, but most of your damage is going to be coming from weapon combos which are precision-based.

If you mod Precision and Power you get the extra precision for your weapon attacks and you will have a substantially larger power pool than an opponent who does not mod with power. So while it is true that eventually you may run out of power (which is why you also spec precision, because at that point you’re down to weapon attacks) but if you start of with a much larger power pool you can hit your powers more. For all powersets, if you hit damaging might powers more often simply because you have the power to do that, you are increasing your dps without increasing your might stat simply by virtue of being able to cast the power more times.

This doesn’t necessarily apply to Atomic, because for Atomic that extra power is better used to cast your defensive abilities more often, including your self-heal, shield, damage buff, and especially your breakout move (which sucks a lot of power.) Meanwhile your offense is coming from your weapon until it’s time to hit your finishing move (assuming you have enough power, hence, mod power.)

  22. ScarletSpeedster21

Hey, I was just wondering which powers are currently doing the most amount of damage output. I know it’s sometimes situational and it depends on the player skill etc., but, in the instance that all powers were played by individuals who were “skill capped” at them and knew all the ins and outs, which ones would come out on top? And please spare me the cliche “pick whatever you like and you will do good damage” speech. If Electricity DPS went head to head with Atomic DPS and both were performed at the highest tier, Atomic would come out on top. Also, I already have my main power chosen and I don’t plan on changing that because of damage. I am asking mainly for information purposes.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Scarlet, i think ice and sorcery are currently doing the most amount of damage. Electricity and rage still need some improvements in their gameplay. However, rage is great for PVP.

    2. Lightlyvayne

“And please spare me the cliche “pick whatever you like and you will do good damage” speech.”

Was this really necessary? Next time you post here spare me the “And please spare me” part.

  23. Castrikron

From my experience with atomic you need to have Atom-Powered Assult on first then Beta Surge, Neutron Bomb, Nuclear Burst then dump your Pressure stacks on Geiger Beam. Now from what I noticed if you are knocked down or interupted at all you lose you pressure atacks and need to start over from Either Beta, Neutron, or Nuclear (dosent matter the order) three more times and dump it on Geiger Beam. If the cooldown on your Atom powered Assault comes before you dump your stacks of preaaure DO NOT refresh it until you finish with Geiger Beam because from my experience it resets your pressure stacks. You have at least 5 seconds after it resets so thats plenty of time to finish the rotation. As for Beam vs Blast its all preference so I always use beam and thow in a heal in place of blast because I like the added heals. Ill crit for around 15-30k everytime I dump on geiger beam, if done correctly you will have a area of effect blast of of gieger damaging enemies around your target also. If it did not then you did not have at least 3 presure stacks ( Which I wish DC would make a UI tracker for that and the aura lol). Does anyone agree or disagree? My CR is 69, and my skills are at 27.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Castrikron for sharing your experience with the guide. Im sure other players will reply this and let you know their thoughts 🙂

  24. vertheros

Ok so from my point of view, I’d rather change Geiger Blast because it’s kinda useless,I mean Geiger Beam does the same thing, some people say it’s for melee or range, but why would I go as melee with a dps toon?I would melt in few seconds lol.Since both Geiger Beam and Geiger Blast do the same damage,I’d change Geiger Blast with a heal or so I won’t need to be revived every 5 seconds.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Vertheros thanks for your question. It is a great variant the one you mention. Our guides are destined to be viable at any situation melee, mid range or range situations. That is why both geiger blast and geiger beam are in the loadout. But you have a point and your experience will tell you when to follow our guides or change according to your needs 🙂

  25. Nova Rae

I’ve been using the above loadout and catching a lot of flack in game for having such poor dps output.

At CR143 with 95sp I was only ever able to hit 4-8K with the odd 15K or so. Other dps around the same CR (unknown how many sp that had to work with) were easily out dps’ing me by 4x. Easy. And user Geiger Blast or Beam would only hit for maybe 3K. Sometimes Beam would give me the odd 20K.

Then someone was kind enough to tell me to either combo or use Geiger attacks. But don’t use Geiger attacks when the aura is up. So I did and the difference was roughly 4x better. I started getting numbers like 10-30K per hit.

So my rotation has become this:

WM+ Nuclear Burst x3 > Atomic Powered Assault (aura on) > Beta Surge x3 > Neutron Bomb x3

    ‘Round and ’round she goes.
Let me know if anyone finds any other adjustments that will help make that better.

Other than that I’m going to work on drastically improving my sp.

  26. BigHal Jordan

I have been playing around with Atomic now for a bit and here is something I found useful during raids, alerts, duo, solo and daily missions. Instead of going with Geiger Beam I use the healing ability. It reduce strain on your healer and you can clip it with Atom-Powered Assault. Another option is using the ability that surrounds the toon with a damaging aura. Both are better options IMO over Geiger Beam, because one adds extra punch to the table or provides the toon with a bit more life due to self healing.

Running Bombshell I was able to survive hits that were taking out 140 DPS and I was a 128 DPS. So the healing ability IMO is a better option over Geiger Beam.

As for abilities in your tray; I tested all variations out and all produce similar damage. Combo vs. Geiger, both again produce similar damage only when the aura is active for the combo and the healing ability like Atom-Powered Assault after using one combo rotation instantly puts the aura around you. Those stating that the combo does less must be using the range combo and not the melee combo as the melee combo product almost identical damage to what one can produce with Geiger Blast.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thank you so much BigHal for sharing this amazing variant in the guide. This will help players know how to survive more with their Atomic character 🙂

  27. Flamestorm

Hate to tell you, but, this rotation is wrong; Atom-powered assault should be first in the rotation otherwise you’ll not get as much power back.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thank you so much FlameStorm for your comment. We will update this guide with your recommendation 🙂

A doubt, I always see people do a combination of blows to activate the atomic aura rather than putting in loaudout ……how active this atomic aura?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Carlos thanks for your comment. You can activate atomic aura by using Beta Surge, Neutron Bomb, or Nuclear Burst plus 2 times its atomic combo and then using Atom-Powered Assault immediately after the second atomic combo.

Here is an example of what you need to do:
Beta Surge + Beta Flood (Tap Melee) [First Atomic Combo] + Beta Flood (Tap Melee) [Second Atomic Combo] clipped with Atom-Powered Assault

This loadout can easily activate Quark-Gluon Aura. However, this is not the best way to deal damage because the highest damage dealt come from using Atomic Advanced Mechanics which uses Geiger Blast or Geiger Beam as damage burst.

One thing that I have noticed about using Geiger Beam as a finisher is that I go through so much power that the AM simply can’t keep up, and my gas tank hits empty in short order. Geiger Blast, though, I do not encounter this problem. It may be a unique issue for low levels, seeing that I started an entirely new char to testdrive Atomic, and the current CR is but 43. Do other run into this situation at higher CR?

Hello DoninDistress, thanks for your comment. Your cr seems to be really low and your power statistics may be low too that could be why you are out of power fast by using Geiger Beam. Maybe when you raise your cr and spend some more skill points in weapon trees this wont be any problem

I Like your Loadout for Atomic DPS. I’ve been using this Loadout in this order… Beta Surge (1), Nuclear Burst (2), Neutron Bomb (3), Geiger Blast (4), Atom-Powered Assault (5), Electron Flare (6). I start doing my Dual Wield Weapon Mastery move and follow immediately by clipping 5 and 6, then begin my rotation of 1, 2, 3 and finishing with 4. This allows me to crit at the low end of 103K to 127K damage, quite often I may add. Geiger Beam is great for long range damage attacks, and when used I have seen crits of up to 80+K. That’s great number, especially for bosses that are beast and ones you want to stay far away from. ? Just thought I would share. Question… does it matter where you place your power points? Does the damage increase or decrease based on the placement? Probably a dumb question but seems to be in line with discussions held during game play so thought I would ask.

One more thing… Skill Points. Use to be a time where regardless of more or less SP, some players had amazing damage whereby others did not. I have a mere 137 Skill Points and do well in 4 and 8 man Alerts. I have all Critical Attack/Chance slots filled as well as all Might slots. I added Precision to one or two weapon trees, and Health, Toughness/Defense and Vitalization/Dominance in others to strike a balance. How much does Skill Points matter today in Game Play vs. being a CR of 144, and wearing Gear ranging from Item-Level 123, 124, 128 and 130?

Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you kindly.

It is recommend that your Skill points always be higher than your CR. However, there are characters with 200+ skill points that can easily deal more damage than any high cr with low skill points.

It is true that having sp is not that important like before but having tons of SP will certainly increase your damage heavily

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Stronforce, placing power points is only to unlock require superpowers to your loadout which wont increase your stats at all. However, Specializing in one tree will grant you: Atomic (+1% Critical Attack Chance and +25 Health) or Nuclear (+5% Critical Attack Damage and +35 Health).

Will you be doing a loadout and rotation with the Quark-Gluon aura active and with the combo powerset of Atomic? I do like this loadout so far but I’d like to see what you have to say about the combo rotation. Thanks & well done.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Bagofboom, thanks for your question. We consider Nuclear Pressure Loadout as the way to go in order to deal great damage with Atomic. In fact, going with Quark-Gluon Aura will grants +7 Critical Strike Chance, +10 Critical Strike Damage and +15% Might while active. However, as a DPS you must do heavy damage as fast as you can and going with weapon mastery + superpower + atomic combos wont deal enough damage as Nuclear Pressure Mechanic does.

Remember, all DPS suppose to deal the highest damage with their own advanced mechanics. That is what DCUO Devs point DPS to be ingame. Furthermore, using weapon mastery combos will only benefit the superpower damage and not its atomic combos which is a waste of time to go with it 🙁

Hope this answer your question if you want to share your build with quark-gluon you can post it in the comments but we recommend you that deal the heavy damage possible 🙂

    I have a question….
Tho my SP is 110 CR 141 i find lower lvl @ 132 gets higher damage than mi… is it i rlly lack SP or that I’m still using it wrongly

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Kitti, thanks for your comment. Being great at dps depends on so many factors such as skill points, equipment, Equipment MODs, base MODS, CR, and the power you are comparing to. Atomic DPS deals great damage with Geiger Blast and Geiger Beam. However, other powers can deal heavy damage with a faster Advanced mechanics.

CR 132 with almost 150 skill points could deal more damage than you but you need to check other factors to really know why they inflict more damage 🙂

I currently run Earth dps and am very fond of it. Mostly due to the simplicity of the rotation, but ESPECIALLY because of the damage output. How strong is the DPS on Atomic? I have friends which keep telling me it compares to Quantum. Which, to me, isn’t really worth it since my Earth DPS does so much more damage and is easier to handle.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Kaos thanks for your question. Atomic Advanced Mechanics is actually pretty simple and deal heavy damage with crits around 100k. I think Atomic is more like Gadgets and Quantum pressing 3 superpowers and then hitting with the finisher which according to the situation Geiger Blast (melee and mid range) or Geiger Beam (range).

It is hard for me to tell if atomic deals more damage than earth but Atomic is really doing heavy damage

    2. KaosKontrol

I ran both powers back to back. Did a complete test with my gear and skill points. Turns out Atomic does barely HALF of Earth’s DPS damage in a 12 second. Basically Atomic hit for about 11k while Earth hit for 22k. In a full 72 second run Earth DPS hit nearly triple the damage of Atomic. So Atomic hits hard but the pet game is still too strong.

Thanks Kaos for your feedback. Im sure this will be very interesting to read for players that want to know how good is Atomic compared to other powers 🙂
