Quantum controller guide updated to GU59

Statistics Priority

  • Vitalization: Increases power-restoration effects
  • Dominance: Makes your effects, like damage and defense reduction, work on enemies.
  • Power: Required to use powers in your loadout
  • Critical Power Chance: Increases chance to perform a critical with a power-restoration ability
  • Critical Power Magnitude: Increases the amount of power restored with a critical power-restoration

Power Points Build

Quantum Controller Loadout

  1. Tachyon BurstRestores Power to group members over time. Freeze your target and a nearby enemy in time, stunning and causing damage
  2. Temporal ExtortionRestores Power to the three most fatigued group members; Increases your Might and Precision for a short time
  3. Warp Barrage: Reduces the target’s damage output and removes Damage role buffs. Damages and knocks your enemies down
  4. Singularity: Reduces target Defenses. Damages, levitates, and stuns your target and nearby enemies
  5. Time Bubble: Surrounds yourself in a temporal distortion bubble, preventing incoming damage. (Usable While Controlled)
    1. AnomalyReduces the target’s ability to heal and removes power over time effects. Trap nearby enemies in time, damaging them and stunning them
  6. Event Horizon (50% Supercharge Cost): Protect yourself and seven other teammates from damage and restores Power Over Time. While active, enemy attacks deal damage back to your attackers

Quantum Controller Tips

  • When more than one controller is in the group, controller with the highest vitalization must activate the Restore Power buff to avoid its override, if you are that troller then you should use “Tachyon Burst [1]”.
  • Keeping your group powered is your main task so for Quantum controllers using “Temporal Extortion [2]” is crucial to be used.
  • Remember putting defense and damage debuffs to adds and bosses in PVE.
  • In PVP, as a controller role you have special advantage on healers so find them, use your healer debuff called “Anomaly [5A]” on them, and focus your attacks on them.
  • “Time Bubble [5]” can be very helpful in raids when you need to pick up your knockdown groupmates.
  • Choose between “Time Bubble [5]” or “Anomaly [5A]” depending the situation

Tactical MODS (Lair System Required)

  • Weapon: Replenishing Adapter
  • Neck: Escalating Replenish
  • Back: Breakout Regeneration
  • Feet: Deadly Block
  • Chest: Reserve Tank
  • Hands: Max Damage

Equipmend MODS

  • Red Socket
    • Vitalization & Precision
  • Yellow Socket
    • Vitalization
  • Blue Socket
    • Vitalization & Dominance (improve control effects)

    The content here is epic!

I’m new to this. Are you saying I should in essence activate my powers in order of 1-6 and keep cycling through? Or are they just mapped for a different reason.

    Thank yiu

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Justin, not necessarily. For DPS role you can follow a rotation to inflict heavy damage. For controllers, you need to use Tachyon Burst (Power Over Time buff) everytime it expires, Temporal Extortion (instant power recovery) when members are low powered, and (heal, damage, and defense) debuff bosses or adds when needed

  2. Tyquan

Hi, I only have two questions I’m assuming this loadout is still good for the current game update and I’ve seen a lot of ppl saying brawling is better for controllers because of the shuriken storm mastery. Just wanna comfirm that both of these are still true to date.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Yes Tyquan, both ideas are great. As a controller you need to increase hit counter fast to regenerate power faster which is why Shuriken Storm Mastery is great at 🙂

  3. Zyrecon

Hi. Thank you for the guide, it’s really helpful. I just don’t get a thing. How do I restore power? I am playing with a friend and we are trying to do tier 3 4player alerts. I’m trying to get Controller items to get enough vitalization but when I try a rotation to debuff enemy and restore power of my allies, I always suck my power at nearly start of fight. What should I do to restore my own Power?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Zurecon, as a controller you should use weapon mastery attacks to reduce your superpower’s power cost read more about this here http://dcuobloguide.com/guides/weapon-mastery-explained/.

For controllers, having high amount of skill points will help you get more Vitalization for your character. There is also a Tactical Mod called Reserve Tank that increases your Power Pool 25%

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Narutoskm, quantum DPS receives power refund only by using its Advanced Mechanics. For controllers, having enough vitalization to improve their POT is the only way to keep getting high amount of power to feel like their are selftrolling.

  4. Brandi Lea Chaplin

I just changed to quatom controller and have tried several load outs and dont seem to be doing much power out on the score board im a 154 with 103 skill points. I have done the skill tree twice should i be setting up vitalization first? Overbpower and or dominance? In the tree? And good load outs you reccomend im using the one here in the guide.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Brandi, thanks for your comment. You must unlock all vitalization statistic possible because it will improve your POT and Instant Power buff. If you have low skill points the best way to get Vitalization is by equipping Vitalization MODS. Remember, your skill points should always be higher than your CR specially if you want to play your power’s role

  5. Peppa

Hello, do you think miracle worker iconic powers help at all with power? also, is there a recomended LO for more damage as a troll getting out damaged by healz can be hard to stomach. thx

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Peppa, getting mirical worker for iconic is not recommended for quantum controller because you wont be able to have your buffs and debuffs. Your main task is keeping your team powered so dont worry about being out damaged 🙂

  6. Kobe

I officially need help, am new to the game but am trying so so hard. I am CR 69 and a quantum controller. I understand my role is all about giving power and cc, but i cant hardly do anything without anyone taking the hits, I have duel pistols, I just don’t kill things fast and I die super fast against t2 and t3, I do get out plenty of power but I’m wondering if it’s normal to die so fast and to not kill fast? Please help I’m getting frustrated.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Kobe, thanks for your question. It is recommended for all players to increase their combat rating in DPS role because of what you are saying. It is hard to level your combat rating in Controller, Healer, or Tank roles specially if you are doing it alone. Using Controller role is only viable if you have want to access alerts and raids where other DPS kill enemies for you.

  7. Quantum Controller

I’m a quantum controller cr 165 and my question is I don’t have many skill points so how many skill points do you think a controller should have?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Quantum Controller, it is recommended that your skill points always be higher than your Combat Rating but you must have at least 90 skill points for your characters role to work to its full potential and unlock main weapon and cross-weapons mastery.

Controllers need to have tons of Skill points to unlock as much vitalization they can which is what will enhance your Power Over Time

  8. Mike

Hey question…how is the guy in the video gaining 5k plus power back? Is it mods or a skill tree thing?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Mike, thanks for your question. If you see the character fighting against sparring turret it is possible to gain 5k power

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Travis, it is recommended that you raise your combat rating in DPS role because it is way more easier 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello CJ, this build is still recommended because with recent updates quantum only got Damage Improvements. However, we will check all our guides as soon as we can for recent Game Updates specially powers that already have received Improvements

  9. Matthias

dcuobloguide, I love your site and use it almost daily!
But can you explain how, as a Quantum Controller, I can obtain ‘Warped Reality’ buff?
How do I get this buff to increase my PoT?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Matthias for your comment, we are glad our guides help you 🙂 Warped reality is a dps buff and it doesnt increase your Power over time. Temporal Extortion is the instant restore power buff. However, it only affects to your group’s three most fatigued members and it wont ever affect you.

As a controller you are not meant to spam your superpowers and debuffs but you must refresh your POT and use Temporal Extortion only when neccesary. To save some power you should use superpowers after a successful weapon mastery combo to reduce it cost

  10. Sub Wolf

    Hello Dcuobloguide,
I know that each power for each role has it’s own play style and I know the play styles of powers for all roles except the Troll. I wanted to try trolling for the first time as I usually find myself in situations where I’m out of power very quickly and it seems the one thing raids and alerts are most in need of are trolls. (that or the one they have no clue what they’re doing XD) And I want to be that rare troll that my team can count on.
Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me if any troll powers have any sort of perks specific to it’s play syle- if there are any at all. The troll is the one role I’m completely clueless about. Lol Sorry for the ramble. Thanks!

    1. Sub Wolf

Also what is critical power chance/magnitude? I’ve not once seen anything like that in game. 0.0

    2. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Critical power change can be found in power tree skill points as Power / Power Heal Crit OR Dominance / Power Heal Crit

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Subwolf, controllers doesnt have big difference in their play style so you may need to check their dps role mechanics to choose the best. I really like quantum because it dps mechanics is great and its controller crowd control effects are awesome. Light is my second favourite because of its UNLIMITED CONSTRUCT COMBOS (great for increasing hit counter fast)

  11. vertheros

What is the difference between Warp Barrage and Distortion Wave?Which one is better as controller?I see that warp barrage has controller properties because it reduces the armor which Distortion Wave doesn’t.I’m asking this because the video tutorial is a bit different because Warp Barrage is replaced by Distortion Wave. Also, can I start with singularity then tachyon burst or it won’t be good?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Vertheros, for controller Warp barrage has Damage Debuff which is why it is more recommended than Distortion wave which doesnt provide any Controller Debuff (plus you will spend 3 more skill points to unlock it and that is not recommended).

Some players uses Distortion Wave because it has a really good crowd control effect and range.

It is recommended that you always start Tachyon Burst to provide Power over time to your allies. However, as a controller you dont need to follow a rotation. You use debuffs when you consider it appropriate

  12. Harry Walker

Hello thanks for all the help unfortunately i need help with a puzzling question i have an armory for dps and controller nowand i wanted to know should i use controller pieces with my dps loadout looking at missions i see what the suggested dominace is and certain missions my dps loadout dominace is no where near what it needs to be. All your help will be greatly appreciated

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Harry walker, thanks for your question. Suggested dominance is more for Tanks and Controllers but for dps you need to wear the equipment with highest CR possible so your DPS can be improved and defeat enemies as fast as you can.

When you are DPS, you must focus on defeat enemies before they defeat you and sometimes while raising combat rating using alternate role equipment is the best way to go but only if item level bonus is huge compare to the main statistic you are losing

  13. Ricky

Hi, for your synthetic mods list I notice that you have vit for every color socket . so does that mean I should sacarfice the bonus that comes with that mod . should I put all yellow nods on my gear ?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ricky, synthetic mods can only be Yellow, Red, or Blue. But if you create normal MODS from R&D Console you will be able to create mixed MODS with colors PURPLE, ORANGE, and GREEN. It is recommended that you boost your main statistics but you must see if getting mod bonus will be more helpful than putting pure Vitalization MODS. This is a player choice 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ricky, for T7 is recommended that players have more than 6000 vitalization. Maybe you should check your skill points, equipment, or MODS

  14. Confused Person

Hey! I love your loadout. However enstead of time bubble and warp barrage is it ok to just use anomaly and teleport? I rather use teleport as it is way more fun not to mention removing agro making it just as useful to pick up. Also anomaly serves as a great stun and the dps debuff isn’t that important. Last question how much vit and dom should a troller have?

    1. Confused Person

Im a cr 103 quantum troller with 4504 vit is that bad? Today when i ran lols i had trouble keeping the power bar up for the celestial healer. Most of the time the healer had below 30% power. I am keeping the pots up at all times and spamming my bow and dual pistol weapon mastery with exstortion yet the healer kept running out of power. Is the problem my vit or that the healer is just over spamming

    2. DCUO Bloguide Post author

It is hard to say how much Vitalization controllers should have. Healers and tanks are the most power needed in-game so if your vitalization is not enough they will be low powered all the time. Remember that, POTing CR 100 players is not the same as POTing CR 120+ players.

For controllers, Having tons of skill points and Vitalization MOD Equipments is crucial for powering over time. A friend of mine has: CR 125, 216 Skill Points, and 6845 Vitalization. He is a great controller and people never complain about his POT.

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Confused Person, thanks for your comment and we are glad our guides help you. You can use Teleport instead of Time Bubble but that wont provide protection so you can revive allies in difficult situations (when allies stay near knock down player). Warp Barrage is more recommended for PVE because it will reduce enemies damage output. However, for missions, solo, or duos, using anomaly is a great variant for its crowd control interaction

Our loadouts are based on what most players used for PVE. However, depending the situation players should change abilities to improve damage or survival. By the way, your variant is a great choice if it works for you, go ahead and use it 🙂

  15. Luxtrabes

First of all I have to say thanks for good information. You have a really good website:)

Question: if you change the POT from Tachyon burst To Gravitonic Field, is that any better/worse and why?

And, when should i use anomaly in Pve? Is it a total waste to use it om bosses that dont heal?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hi Luxtrabes for your question, we are glad our website help you 🙂 You can replace Tachyon burst with Gravitonic Field, the only difference between them is the crowd control effect. In some raids, bosses can heal themselves and there is the time when Anomaly become useful or for PVP to disable Healing over time on enemies

  16. Android Fever

hey this isn’t a Controller Guided loadout but I was thinking of how this sounds for a Quantum load out . 1 would be Gravity Well, 2 Temporal Extortion, 3 Anomaly, 4 Time Bubble, 5 Einstein’s Ray, 6 Oblivion. those are just the loadout. how does that sound ? let me . thanks 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Android, if you use this loadout for fun it would be great and you will still be able to POT your allies with Temporal Extorsion and Oblivion while Time Bubble will help you reviving them.

This loadout tries to mix dps and controller which is not recommended because as DPS using AM is the only way to deal heavy damage. However, as a controller this loadout is viable but you wont be able to apply Damage or Defense Debuff which are the most recommended for PVE

  17. Phantom

Hello Should I go with controller gear once i turn lvl 30 or wait to get to tier 3 or higher? And should I use controller gear in solo’s and duo’s

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Phantom, it is easier to raise combat rating in DPS Role because you will be able to kill adds fast once you master Quantum Advanced Mechanics. It is recommended that start focusing on your role when you reach the last stage of Combat Rating

  18. RangerReek

When I’m sending my skill points I want to get as many as the innate vitalization, dominance, critical power chance, critical power magnitude that I possibly can get, correct?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Yes Ranger you are correct. As a controller you must focus on those statistics to fullfil your role task

  19. Dan

Hi, hoping you could help. I’m trying to build up my quantum troll. I’ve never trolled before. With tachyon burst for POT, what is the cool down until I hit it again so I don’t cancel out the previous time I hit it? Or another way of asking is after I hit tachyon burst, how many seconds will it restore power to my team before I should hit it again? And during that time, do you recommend attacking with weapon mastery or using other powers to debuff enemies? Hopefully my question isn’t too confusing. Thanks

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Dan, Tachyon Burst POT effects last something like 12 or 15 seconds but the easy way to know if your allies are low powered is by seeing if you have the lightning icon near your status bar. Everytime you encounter new enemies use your TACHYON Burst so you can renew the POT and also stun your enemies.

If you are main troll you should use Tachyon Burst and Defense Debuff or if you are alternate troll you should use Temporal Extortion all the time. After using any of your superpowers (except Tachyon Burst) i recommend you to use a weapon mastery combo so you activate crit bonus that decrease your superpower cost

  20. Kraken

So I’m cr 114 190 sp and been quantum a long time, loving the dps side of it and troll as the counterpart for the alerts, I was wondering about the defence debuff, I like singularity as it roots and cc adds nicely alongside delivering the defence debuff which is key, however timeshift does this exact debuff, does a little more damage but the cc isn’t as great, it stuns but doesn’t throw themharound and bring them together for the dps’s to beast the adds… Also using timeshift saves 1 powerpoint which isn’t crucial as the main troll iconics are used anyways… is there any major difference I’m missing as to why singularity should be used over timeshift? I would still prefer the power over timeshift as it feels smoother as a troll, its just curiosity got the better of me lol. Anyways love the posts and all the information u provide to all fellow dc players, keep up the great work!!

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Kraken, thanks for your comment and support. Singularity provides you the defense debuff you need for Alerts and Raids. Time Shift as you mentioned doesnt provide any debuff but its CC can be a great variant for your loadout. I recommend you to use Time Shift instead of Singularity when the situation let you. However, it is a wise decition to have all controller debuffs just in case you need it.

    2. Kraken

I understand this, but timeshift does provide a defence debuff, I’m not sure if this was changed in the gu 44 but it says, at least on my screen that time shift, while in control role, reduces enemy defenses. I dont wish to seem like an a** about this as I do love your guides, but timeshift does provide this debuff. However, after all of this I’ll still prefer singularity as it has a better cc effect on adds in my opinion. Anyways thanks for the reply!!

    3. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks for your comment Kraken we really appreciate your comment and you have pointed out this misspelled. We just add Control role for Time Shift. Thanks again for supporting our guide 🙂 we are glad to have people like you sharing ideas and helping us to improve

  21. Ellie

Had a quick question. I just got to level 30 and my league convinced me to go troll. I love troll when in a group but solo it’s taking forever just to take down 1 enemy. Is there a way to dual spec dps and troll?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Of course Ellie, there is something called Armories that allows you to have both roles one per each armory. Every player have 1 armory free. However, if you want to have both roles you must buy an additional armory. Check more about armories here http://dcuobloguide.com/guides/armories/.

In my expertise, raising your combat rating in Controllers is a very hard task. You should focus on learning how to dps and reach high cr for then start working on your Controller role

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

  22. CIarity

I’m having trouble with quantum controller… I’m currently CR54 “USPS Clarity” and just made this toon, but I’m trolling really low, whenever I restore power it restores only 121 power… Why. I understand I am suppose to do feasts and all but is it really suppose to be that low. Please look at my ton. Please explain why.

Also this is my first time doing a controller character

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Clarity, thanks for your comment. being a controller is one of the hardest role to play in low combat rating. Your POT will 100% depend on your Vitalization while Tanks and Healers can complete their task with poor statistics.

It is normal that your Power Over time restore keeps low because you dont have enough vitalization to improve it. You need tons of skill points, MODS, and sometimes sodas, to be a great troller in DCUO.

I suggest you to raise your combat rating in DPS role so when you get at 100+ CR then start working on your controller tier and statistics

  23. Kira

I do not understand the yellow socket, red socket and stuff like that. can you help by explaining it to me? what does it mean. and i love this blog it helps me out so much so thank you!

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Kira for your support, we are glad that you like our website and it has been helpful for you 🙂

At high combat rating equipment, most pieces have sockets for you to add Equipment MODS and make your character more powerful than it already is. Depending on your role you must equipped some MODS statistics in those sockets depending the color. For example, Quantum DPS needs in red socket MIGHT MOD while Quantum Controller uses Vitalization & Precision MOD in red sockets.

Read about Equipment MODS here http://dcuobloguide.com/guides/equipment-mods/
Read about Tactical MODS here http://dcuobloguide.com/guides/base-dispenser-mods/

If you have any further question, we will be glad to answer it 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Rydon, as a controller you must have high amount of vitalization rather than power because vitalization enhances your POWER OVER TIME buff so your group can get enough power for their roles

  24. Space Ace

So with new quantum am for dps builds should we use precision over might equipment mods for the Old WM build? Combination??

  25. Mighty

Thank you that’s very helpful. One more thing in my base mode generated do you recommend to but might as well? 😀

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Mighty, some controllers suggest that boosting precision is better for the role because doing damage with their weapon mastery combos will help then kill adds while using superpowers only for crowd control them. However, it is a personal choice because controllers are not meant to deal damage

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Mind Fvck, Controllers have multiple debuffs and crowd control powers that sometimes they must change loadout depending on the situation. Alcubierre Wave is the damage debuff, so it is nice to have it unlock but you can replace it with a crowd control power if you like.

It is recommended that Controllers have at least 2 debuffs in their loadout always: Defense and Damage Debuff for PVE, Defense and Healing Debuff for PVP

  26. Ace

New to the site love the guides. Was wondering if you could post guides on how best to spend skill points for each role?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Ace, thanks for your support. We already have guides for where to spend skill points in every weapon tree. You can find them here http://dcuobloguide.com/traits/weapons/.

Each weapon mastery guide has a section called “Unlocking points for Roles” there you’ll see where to spend your skill points to complete the weapon mastery

  27. Controller of Light

    Hello DCUObloguide,

Is it possible to use one tree and still control efficiently? Is it wise?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Of course you can. However, some control powers will require you to be close your enemie or have long animation. In this build, all super power buffs come from space tree and the power over time and shield come from time. With this mix you have all superpowers a troll need to have

  28. Aylinnah

Hiya, I just started trolling with my ALT not long ago using this spec, I use WM for the decrease in power cost but what do you ‘clip’ it with? At the moment I’m clipping it with Temporal Extortion but my own power depletes fairly quickly, and as I’m brawling (into MA range) I cant really get in and recharge power thru combo stacking am I missing something here?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Aylinnah, to get the weapon mastery decrease bonus you must wait for it to completes or impacts the attack. If you see and heard the circle aura around you that means you will receive the decrease bonus. If you dont see the circle around you then your superpower cost will be full. I recommend you to practice more your weapon mastery clipping 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks Buddah for letting us know this amazing tip we will soon update some of our guides 🙂

  29. ErickHv

HI! I have a troll Cr 103 and my vit is 2500 i think its too low, all my gear is for controllers and i got T5 with mods and T6. I dont understand why my vit is that low i got 74 Sp.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello ErickHv, yo will need more than 74 Skill points to increase significantly your vitalization. You need at least 90 sp to unlock the 3 weapon mastery trees for your character and then a lot more skill points to unlock additional Weapon Mastery Trees. You can also MODS your equipment with MODS 6

    2. Aylinnah

If you use weapon mastery it’ll cost you 74sp (26 main weap/24 WM/24 WM) thats the 20 to open WM, the WM itself, and the 3 awesome points at the very bottom, also 2 points for the mastery you want to go into (Usually range for trolls) so you will just make it. That should give you a crapload of Vit if you pick the 6 power points and 6 Vit points + the 3 at the bottom on all 3.
More SP goes into speccing out other weapons and picking up the Vit points in them, Start with the 3’s and then later the 6’s. Most people dont know that SP is needed as much as Gear if not more so.
Its boring as all hell (Im having to do it myself) but start with the Solo’s and get all of them, then Duo’s just tell em at the start u need the feats, then 4 mans, 8man raids etc I’m currently on 91sp just from doing this 🙂

  30. Addlan

I like your build and I agree with you for the most part. I see a couple areas where you could save on power points though. First, if you are looking for a shield to help with rescues/pick-ups and provide you with a little extra security, you can purchase the Hard Light Shield in the Iconic Powers tree for 1 point rather than spending 2 points to purchase Quantum Tunneling and Time Bubble in the Time Tree. I find Hard Light Shield to be just as effective as Time Bubble and you get the added bonus of picking your shield color to match you character 🙂 Your other option is to go with the aggro dump for pick ups and save a power point by choosing only Quantum Tunneling. But you should choose one or the other. I can’t think of a situation where a controller would need, or have room for a shield and an aggro dump on their loadout at the same time.
My second suggestion is to go with the Anomaly power from the Time Tree as your healing debuff. Healing debuffs are not used very frequently, but you should have it as an option, and by choosing Anomaly instead of Gravity Bomb, you will save another power point. As an added bonus, the control effects from Anomaly are superior to Gravity Bomb and you will be able to trap enemies in time without messing up the POT rhythm or overwriting your partners higher POT (extremely helpful in a Raid like A&B). Use it and I think you will agree that Anomaly is the superior controller power.
I would suggest that lower level controllers use the 2 extra power points to purchase Nanoweave Armor and Powerful Resistance to boost your Health and Defense. Higher level controllers who are comfortable with their Health and Defense levels may want to get Tactical Genius and Weapons Expert to do a little more damage or a combination of the two. Whichever you choose, you’re doing more to help your group.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thanks you so much Addlan for your very helpful comment. We will count on it when we update this guide and im sure other Quantum controllers will benefit from this amazing comment 🙂

  31. Jacques

Just wanted to say thanks – this is a very useful site. I used it often when building up my Quantum Controller. Nice work!

I have a question about skill points. Would it be more beneficial to unlock the weapon mastery vit points outside of the weapons that you are actually using the weapon mastery for? EXP. (Using One-Hand: Solar Flame) so spending the 20 points in the one hand and hand blaster weapon tress. But with the rest just using them to get to the vit/power rather than just using skill points to open other weapons and getting vit and dom.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Drandas, you are right it is recommended to unlock Vitalization / Power Heal Crit points in all weapon trees before you unlock complete weapon mastery points. However, you should at least unlock your main weapon mastery and cross-weapon masteries (Dual Wield and Hand Blaster) to have the weapon mastery combos unlocked.

Hey im still trying to get a good with the quantum controller role and i was wondering if you could show the tree for martial arts, shield, or hand blast. Also if had any tips for someone trying to get use to the controller role.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

In the Weapon Mastery Guides you will find how to unlock skill points for each role 🙂

  34. Javier Suarez

Hi I already bought t2 armor as a controller and I read that its better to buy dps armor. So what should I do in terms of armor? Your guides help alot I’ve heard so if you can help me I would appreciate it

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Javier, if you bought t2 controller armor try to raise your Combat Raiting to 53. This will let you access the TIER 3 and then i recommend you to buy dps armor and use DPS build and loadout.

It is better to raise your combat rating with DPS equipment, build, and loadout. Once you get the highest Combat rating then you can switch to Controller and by controller set

  35. Patrick

I appreciate this site, which I wish I had found when I first started the game. I recently got to Level 30, but I feel like I am the worst player in the game. Any group I’m with, I seem to have the worst output in stats, etc.

When I started with Quantum, I ended up mostly just adding to the “Time” tree, but both the load out for this and the DPS one, are very “Space”-centric. Should I considered re-allocating my traits to more “Space” based powers, or are there good “Time” loadouts as well?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Patrick thanks so much for your comment. We are glad to be helpful. Every power in DCUO become stronger when you mixed the best super-powers from both trees. Thats why our guides have builds unlocking diverse super-powers in both trees. You can focus on just Space or Time. However, you wont have the most powerful super-powers in your loadout.

  36. Nekros

Hi, if I not use -Alcubierre Wave and -Lift and use 2 points on iconic -Nanoweave Armor and -Powerful Resistance instead. Is it gonna effect much for my loadout? it’s still good or worst? 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Nekros, you can take off Alcubierre Wave from your loadout. However, you wont have any damage debuff super-power on your loadout. It will be a good loadout but you wont be able to decrease your enemies damage

  37. Pandu

hey umm i’d like to know when i reach level t2 which gear should i choose?? the tank role or controller?? and why dont you use quantum tunneling in this loadout?? and what’s the best pvp loadout and role for quantum?? sorry for these question and thank you 😀

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Pandu, i personally recommend you to raise your Combat rating in DPS role, because it is easier to do Challenges, Duos, Missions with your DPS gear than Controller where you will depend on a DPS player to kill enemies for you. Quantum Tunneling is not in the loadout. However, as you said it is a great PVP power. When you go to PVP arenas you should change your Loadout and use Quantum Tunneling instead of another super-power. Try to pick the best crowd control super-powers

  38. ControlYourMind

Thank you for your guide to the quantum controller. I use your template and I was wondering if you could do the same for the tree weapon skills to optimize the quantum controller?

I currently use the bow but my league told me that brawling is not bad for faster up the power (I doubt that this is a job but if you have time, it would be really nice of you) .

Thank you in advance for your answer.

    best regards,

PS: Sorry for my english but I’m french…

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Control, thanks for writing, here is the Brawling Skills build:
      1. Brawling Weapon Proficiency – 1 skill point
      2. Double Fist – 1 skill point

      5. Launching Uppercut– 1 skill point

      7. Dominance / Power Heal Crit – 3 skill points
      9. Vitalization – 6 skill points
      10. Power – 5 skill points

For Bow Skill build you can go like this:

      3. Arrow Fling – 1 skill point
      4. Bow Slam – 1 skill point

  39. SteRz

Thank you for the update! Btw can i use Gravitonic Field instead of Tachyon Burst? Because Tachyon take forever to cast the power ._.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hi Sterz, it is an excellent way to use Gravitonic Field. Tachyon Burst is very useful to make crowd control like in Assault and Battery 🙂

  40. Ultrasneaky

I just wanted to know why you don’t have Quantum Tunneling listed as your 5th choice in this loadout ? its the best power for alot of reasons. eg reviving team mates when no one can reach them, also its a good move to have in pvp aswell, especially when opponents get to close.
my loadout consists of 1: Tachyon Burst, 2:Temporal Extortion, 3: Gravity Bomb, 4: Quantum Tunneling, 5:Time Bubble, 6: Event Horizon.
i’ve found in my time playing that this loadout is the best for pve/group pvp because it has the highest chance of getting you out of trouble and and helping the team stay alive and keeps the dps and tank doing there job when someone goes down.

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hi Ultrasneaky, this guide shows the best super-powers for PVE instances. Your loadout is excellent too for PVP because in PVP instances there is no need to have defenses or damage debuffs. In T6, controllers must debuff bosses to help their teammates work

  41. Nekros

I wanna know is Word of Power in iconic tree is worth for Quantum Controller?
What is pros and cons of it for any Troller in your opinion… Thanks for all helps again guys 🙂

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Nekros, Word of Power heals yourself and restores Power over time to you and up to 7 group members while Event Horizon can be used while controlled, protect yourself and seven other teammates from damage and restores Power Over Time.

Both Supercharge-powers restore power over time to your allies, but one of many Controller’s task is to provide protection to your group and raise fallen allies. Event Horizon will serve this task perfectly.

  42. Alan

Bro, can i use dual pistols or bow for this build, because i’m using handblasters and i get a lot of damage and i don’t really like the rifle.

    1. Alan

Ohh, i forgot, what you suggest Dps build or controller build? I really like dps and killing plyers but i’m still T2 so in pvp battles i die really fast and i tought that i should change to a controller build till i was like in T3. Is that a good idea or i should stay on dps?

    2. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Hello Alan, thanks for your comment. I really prefer One handed for all roles. Choosing a weapon requires try them all but for controller you need a weapon which increase your hit counter fast to regenerate your power fast. Bow and Dual pistols does not increase your hit counter fast but you can try it.

About your role, i always suggest to raise your Combat rating in DPS mode because it is easier to kill your enemies with DPS than controller. Furthermore, Controllers need a lot of vitalization and dominance to fulfill their role so you will need tons of skill points for this.

Leveling your character in DPS role is easier than any other role, probably this is the reason why DPS role has a lot of demand

  43. Kosmika

After looking at this guide and many of your other guides I would just like to tell you that, as much as I have found them to be very helpful and informative, t he main thing that has struck me is that after reading a lot of the comments and the replies you have given it is clear that you are a genuinely friendly and helpful guy. You always take criticism on board and seem happy to fix mistakes in your guides. It’s great to see. The Internet needs more people like you! Keep up the good work

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Thank you so much Kosmika, we try to provide the best for our community and people like you make us continue with great pleasure our job 🙂

  44. blake

Hi, I’m a big fan of you guide by the way it helped me through many things. I do have a question though on the time tree and I see quantum tunneling is chosen, is that required if it really doesn’t serve a purpose like it is not even listed in the loadout. Could that be used for something else like the iconic tree?

    1. DCUO Bloguide Post author

Of course Blake, you can configure your build in your Armory without unlocking quantum tunneling, then you can choose 2 iconics skills or unlocking quantum tunneling depending on the situation 🙂

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Thanks Koegen for your comment, we didnt greyed the Gravity Well by mistake. Thanks for letting us know, we really appreciate it

  45. Rocko ManofAction

For the most part its almost what I use for Quantum Trolling. I only use 2 debuffs in my loadout since adds and most bosses do not heal themselves. Trolls are normally the ones picking people up when or if they drop, so I have Quantum Tunneling or Time Bubble in there instead. Also I dont use Gravity well but use Distortation Wave instead (A&B final fight). It has a bigger area of effect but u need to be in the center of it (quantum tunneling or Time Bubble if needed).

So instead of getting Gravity well & Intimiding Gaze, I take Time Bubble and Distortion Wave. At a certian point you won’t need the little bit of dom it gives.

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Hello Rocko ManofAction, thanks for sharing your opinion. This build and loadout allows quantum controllers to have all debuffs and to be range controllers. Even though, we thank your review in our guide. We really appreciate our community thoughts 🙂

  46. Mike Thay

As a controller, if i were to have a lower VIT compare to the other controller, usually what is the powers that will overide? meaning which power should i avoid if i have lower VIT?

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Hi Mike, when you are the lower vit controller you should not use Gravitonic Field or Tachyon Burst (depending which one you use). These powers Restores Power to group members over time, so if you have lower vit and you use it you will override the stronger power over time restoration

  47. Jeremy Elliott

I had read somewhere that its possibly better to have super speed for its speed drain and use dual wield for a troll. Has/can anyone test this?

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

      Hi Jeremy,

Speed drain cost 50% Supercharge Cost, cause damage over time to nearby enemies and restore power to your group. Event Horizon cost 50% Supercharge Cost, surround your group with a barrier bubble, and restore power to your group. As a Controller, your main task is to support your group with power and protection.

Dual wield is a great melee weapon, but controllers need to stay away from adds and do range dps. I recommend you to use Rifle.

    2. Jeremy Elliott

So in other words speed drain is good but there are better moves? What about using that combo of SD and duel weild as a dps, other then a troll?

    3. dcuobloguide Post author

Yeap Event Horizon is the best supercharge move you should have in your loadout. Dual Weild is excellent for DPS, it makes AOE damage when it hits.

  48. jaiden

He I watched a few Quantum Controller Loadouts and thought you might be able see another type of loadout Yours is great, but look at these and see what you think.

    1) Tachyon Burst ( No Surprise) 2) Temporal Extortion (Again No Surprise) 4) Graviton Field 5) Event Horizon 6) Alcubierre Wave 7) Singularity 8) Quantum Tunneling ( Surprised It Was Used In Loadouts)
    9) Warped Barrage 10) Gravity Bomb and there were a few others like Word Of Power, Warped Reality and that was it. Coarse Wisdom Of Solomon and Intimidating Gaze. So are there any you might think I could use. Thanks for all the help.

  49. jaiden

Yeah but Tachyon Blast takes forever. I can’t seem to get my CR up, and I just bought another piece of the Amazon Lion Armor. It’s frustrating to work so hard and try to get up where CR is really high. I don’t know which power is used the most the most. I seem to have trouble just keeping the healer and Tanks healed. I’m like stuck at a fork in the road and can’t get the right loadout that fits me no matter which order it’s in, and if I’m in a raid I need to be able to give power as fast as I can, but it’s never fast enough. I just want my league to know they have a good Controller and is able to do everything to keep them going. My friend said I was burned out from playing and should take a break, but I don’t want to fall to far behind. Any advice you may have would be great because I have gotten a little better since I started chatting with you, but I’m just not there yet.

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Hi Jaiden, you are right Tachyon Blast takes forever but for Raids T5 its the most powerfull quantum power.
I asume you are trying to reach CR 84, remember using Equipment MODS on your equipment, so you dont need to buy all set to raise your CR. Use our Combat Rating Calculator to know what equipments or MODS you need to get your CR up.

As a controller, the only way to give power to your groups is using your Tachyon Burst/Gravitonic Field (Power Over time buff), Temporal Extortion (Instant power restoration) or Event Horizon (Supercharge Power). However, the amount power restored will always depend on your Vitalization Stats. If your vitalization is low your Power Restoration will be low.

You can get vitalizations, Critical Power Chance, Critical Power Magnitude from Skill Points in Weapon Trees. Try to unlock them all and Mod your gear with vitalization for raising your Power Regeneration.

  50. jaiden

Is there any powers I can use on the Time Tree? I’m looking at your Tree and you use only 1 on the Space Tree. Is there others you can use on the Time Tree?

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

My loadout is Space based because it has the best range dps attacks. As Quantum DPS you must clip Gravity Well and Warped Reality, in this order, together to ensure hight dps. However, if you want some good Time Power, you can use Anomaly and Tachyon Blast to benefit from Power Interaction.

  51. Jaiden

I never use DPS when we do raids or other tier missions. So I’m a Controller all the time. I like DPS, but I’m Controller. Also if I’m the lead Controller with highest Vitalization then I’m the main Controller, if the our other Controller plays he has the higher Vitalization, and I do not want to make the mistake of debuffing one of his powers. So that’s good if I debuff over the other Controller. I also wanted to ask what is the best weapon to use/ I have Hand Blaster that are 131.5 and had a great bow, but can you give me some other weapon that I can use.

  52. jaiden

Yeah they are trying to make me MIGHT based and we have a few good controllers, but if I have the higher VIT then I’m the main controller, but if I’m not then a problem will arise an I might use a power that will affect there power. Si I’m stuck on what is best loadout for me to be good. So that I hope you can give me a better. Now my DPS if I change is 1) Warped Reality 2) Gravity Well 3 Singularity 4) Gravity Bomb 5) Time Bubble and 6 is Event Horizon. I hope you can think of a better loadout.

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Hi Jaiden, how you spend your Skill points is crucial to be an excellent DPS or CONTROLLER. Quantum DPS are Might based and Quantum Controllers should have Vitalization, Dominance, and Power. If you dont have the highest Vitalization, you should spam Temporal Extortion and Debuffs Enemies. My advice is ‘Let damage for DPS and focus on your role stats’.

You can check our Quantum DPS Guide where builds and loadouts can be found. Being full DPS and Controller Role is now posible with Armories. However, you should buy another Armory: one for DPS build and the other one for Controller Build.

  53. jaiden

High I’m glad I found this and it helps a lot, but I seem to have 1 problem. I’m in a league where they make me the POT sometimes and always saying use Vit never of the other 2 Dom, or Power. ! member ask if I wanted to be a might based controller or power. That confused me because I want to be a good controller, but I’m not sure why they if I want to be Might or Power based. I started DCUO when it first came out and it really wasn’t about CR or who was the best. When I came after the major hack on PSN DCUO really changed. They added auras and other little things but it was about who CR was higher and who was better. Anyway I’m a Quantum Controller and in a league where they said don’t use Power, but use Might. I’m fine with that but if I’m the POT main Controller or if another is I don’t want to make a mistake and debuff his Quantum Powers. My loadout is Temporal Extortion, Tachyon Burst, Singularity, Gravity Well and Event Horizon. I do change if I’m the main Controller but I wan to be a good controller and make a mistake when playing in my league. I hope you can give some other loadout that could help me to get better and be the main Controller. I like this and how you wrote it. I hope you can help me.

    1. dcuobloguide Post author

Hi Jaiden thanks for your comment. Controllers are responsible for incapacitating enemies and regenerating power to their group, thats why they have power over time buffs and defense, damage, and healing debuffs. Controllers should focus only on debuffing and restoring power.

Talking about your loadout you have: Temporal Extortion (Restores Power), Tachyon Burst (restores power over time), Singularity (defense’s debuff), Gravity Well (damages, roots and stuns | not a controller power), Event Horizon (Protect your group and restores Power Over Time). You are missing in your loadout damage and healing debuff so I recommend you Alcubierre Wave (damage’s debuff) and Gravity Bomb (healing’s debuff). Gravity Well is an excellent crowd control power but has no interaction on controller role and for raising its effectiveness you need to have high Dominance.

Our Quantum Guide offers you a Controller Range Build and Loadout, excellent for raids where you need to be away from boss. Stats (might, dominance, vitalization, etc) have no relation with loadouts except on their effectiveness, damage, healing, and power restoration rate.

If you want to be an excellent Controller, you should focus on vitalization (increases power generation effects), dominance (increases the duration of stuns, roots, levitations, and encasements), power (required to use abilities in your loadout). Might and Precision are DPS stats, so unless you want to be a DPS Controller, you should not worry about these stats.

If your league wants you to use Might instead of Power is because they want you to help them on DPS not on trolling. When your controller have high pool power, you can use more Temporal Extortion to restore instant power and also use your controller debuffs (controller’s main task).

I hope to be helpful with my answer. If you have any other question, let me know! 🙂

  54. Rivea

Einstein’s Ray is a brilliant replacement to Alcubierre Wave in certain situations, such as in the last boss fight in AnB to pull away the blue lantern benefactors from St. Walker and Hal.
